Aurora Flight Sciences has completed low-speed wind tunnel tests of the blended wing body X-plane that the Boeing company is developing for a DARPA program.
Boeing is pausing development of the X-66 transonic truss-braced wing aircraft with NASA and reallocating resources to get the 737-7, 737-10 and 777X certified.
The Aurora concept includes two turbofan fan engines for horizontal thrust and four fans embedded into the blended wing body airframe for vertical lift.
The Boeing subsidiary’s proposed version of the Liberty Lifter demonstrator features a 213-ft. wingspan and the ability to carry up 50,000 lb. of cargo.
